Daihatsu Basket Concept

The Daihatsu basket concept is design to blend into your laid back lifestyle (if you are leading one) even if I do lead a carefree lifestyle, this Daihatsu wouldn't appear in my top list of cars to purchase given the unique styling it bears. Daihatsu claims it seats four and is great for the occasional family trip to the farm (if your family does own one). Like a picnic basket it ferries its passenger in comfort of linen & it comes with a removable hardtop roof over the front seats and a removable canvas top over the rear seats. The rear deck is design to accommodate all of your equipment without the worry of staining the floor. I salute Daihatsu's noble idea of a comfortable mild 'pick-up' truck but I wish it would look something more like a...well car. Engine specifications might be revealed later during the Tokyo Motor Show but knowing daihatsu, there is a high chance of throwing in a 660 cc unit.

Daihatsu Deca-Deca concept

This is the last of the 3 Daihatsu concept vehicles trio destined for the Tokyo Motor Show. Presenting the all versatile "super box" Deca-Deca that is design to offer you maximum space in order to pursue your favourite past time in the vehicle (I am quoting Daihatsu here). Among the highlights of the vehicle are :
  • The low, flat floor and pillarless, side-by-side doors (135 degrees) provide superb ease of ingress and egress and loading and unloading.
  • The slim fold-away seats can be arranged in a variety of patterns to perform work inside the vehicle or stow large items.
  • The robust exterior features a well-defined three-dimensional form that expresses stability.
It looks great as a mobile office when there is an urgent need to have a meeting on the go.

Daihatsu e:S Concept

Daihatsu is not letting all the big boys like Toyota, Nissan & Honda steal all the lime light in the Tokyo Motor Show after all its Japan is their homeland. The first of the 3 concept car Daihatsu will display is the e:S concept which stands for eco & smart..hmm paying homage to the brand of Car that inspired their interior dash design perhaps? Anyway the Daihatsu e:S sits on a shorten version of a current platform( Mira or Cuore ) as an educated guess) with a wheel base of 2175 mm. Daihatsu claims it could accommodate 4 passengers comfortably. The weight of the e:S was kept to miserly 700kg by clever use of lightweight materials. Combined with the Daihatsu's combustion engine equipped  with start-stop technology, the e:S can achieve fuel efficiency of 30km/liter without resorting to a costly Hybrid system. (Fuel efficiency was tested under 10-15 Japanese Test Cycle). Oh yes, I won't blame you for thinking that Daihatsu borrowed Toyota iQ's platform ;)
