German tuning specialist, B&B, is turning the up wick on the most potent series-production Golf ever made, the new 270HP all-wheel drive Golf R, with the launch of a performance package that includes powertain and chassis upgrades.

The engine mods come in three different stages, with the first bumping output from 270 horsepower to 310HP, the second to 324HP and the third to a hefty 362HP.

The most powerful kit features a larger turbocharger, a sports exhaust system with a different downpipe and a racing catalyst, reprogrammed ECU, a revised air intake system and a new intercooler.

B&B claims that the 362HP Golf R sprints from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.8 seconds and maxes out at 280km/h or 174 mph.

The tuning firm also offers a special 8-caliper high-performance braking system, an adjustable coilover suspension with new springs that lower the vehicle's ride height and a set of black-colored alloy wheels in sizes 19'' and 20'.

Remember the plain looking VW destined for North America sketches which was circulating around the net some time ago? We now get to see the actual metal & I have to say it looks better it was on paper. Details of Volkswagen's New Compact Coupe (NCC) are as follows:

NCC is powered by a hybrid powertrain which combines a 1.4-litre TSI engine with 148 bhp and 220 Nm and a 27 bhp electric motor VW calls E-motor. Naturally, power goes to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

VW also claims that the consumption and emmissions are rated at 23.8 km/l of fuel and 98 g/km of CO2 to be precise. As a comparison, the Eos Bluemotion is rated at 16.1 km/l and 144 g/km. Performance is not sacrificed to achieve this; 227 km/h top speed and 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds are resepectable.

A 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack stored in the NCC’s rear powers the E-motor. Efficiency measures include regenerative braking, stop-start and a “coast down” measure, where engine is disengaged from transmission as soon as the driver releases the gas pedal. This is even possible at higher speeds, as in highway cruising. Drag losses are eliminated, so the NCC coasts for a long time to save fuel.

At 4.54m long and 1.78m wide, the NCC has a similar footprint to the Jetta, although it has a lower roofline and longer wheelbase (2.65m) than the sedan. Boot volume is 380 litres. The four-seat coupe is positioned between the Scirocco and Passat CC. You can probably image that the new Mk6-based Jetta will be a four door version of this one.

As of press time Volkswagen did not give any indication of when the NCC will start rolling off the production lines.

VW Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition Announced For US

Volkswagen is planning to bring in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup "Street" Edition to US dealerships beginning next year. If you happen to attend last year's SEMA, you might have caught a glimpse of the concept it was based on.

The Jetta TDI Cup "Street" Edition comes with similar body kit to the version shown off during previous TDI Cup races. One will notice modifications done on front bumper, side skirts and rear valance, and large, red, caliper brakes were added. The brakes are covered by 18-inch Charleston wheels. Sport suspension and sway bars were taken from the GLI.

Under the hood there is the 140 horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates a healthy 236 ft-lb of torque. It is paired to either a six-speed manual, or DSG paddle-shift transmission. Highlights of the interior includes Interlagos cloth-lined sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Volkswagen mention that the Jetta will be priced form $25,000 & qualifies for a federal tax credit of $1,300. Sales commencing in the beginning of January 2010.

Volkswagen New Midsized Sedan For US

Volkswagen of America has begun campaigning for the upcoming Mid-Sized Sedan (NMS) by releasing a black 7 white sketch. According to WorldCarFans, the NMS will be bigger than the Passat but cost 8000$ less. This will put the sedan in direct competition with the popular Camry & Accord. Volkswagen is choosing to build the NMS in Chattanooga, Tennessee to take advantage of the weak dollar.

Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion Now In UK

The most eco-friendly Golf has arrived in the United Kingdom boasting a fuel sipping figure of 74.3 mpg (3.8 l/100km) and averages 99 g/km in C02 emissions. The Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion uses a 1.6-litre TDI common rail turbo diesel motor that produces 77kW (105 PS) of power and maximum torque of 250Nm (184 lbs ft) made at 1,500 rpm. This results in the Golf reaching 62mph from standstill in 11.3 seconds with a top speed of 118mph.

According to Volkswagen, among the technology that made this feat possible are the Start/ Stop system, longer gear ratios, regenerative braking, hill hold assist and low rolling resistance tyres. The sports aerodynamic kit with sports bumpers further improve aerodynamics while working together with side skirts and 15-inch wheels to distinguish the Bluemotion Golf from others in the range.

Volkswagen is asking for £17,325 (RRP OTR) in return for this technologically advance Golf which also features additional equipment in the like ABS with ESP, Climatic semi-automatic climate control, a radio/ CD/ MP3 sound system and seven airbags. They further added that the £785 premium more over the standard S 1.6-litre TDI can be recovered through fuel & road tax savings over the years.

Volkswagen Up Spied!

The Volkswagen sensational city car has been spied by Autoexpress. At first glance it looks like the previuos generation Polo but judging by the short overhangs the outward position of the wheels they are pretty sure it is the up. Autoexpress further state that the car will have much styling cues from the concept that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007.

A turbocharged a 600 cc engine is expected to be found under the bonnet which returns 94mpg with sub-100g/km CO2 output. Customers who prefers a more powerful variant can have the 1.2 liter engine also. The Up will be at the showroom by 2011 with a price tag from as low as £7,500. Chances are it will up will carry the Lupo badge with the all electric version due in 2013

As far as safety is concern, this Polo is destined to grab all 5 stars in the recently established, stricter and more comprehensive EuroNCAP rating. To achieve this target, Volkswagen had improved the vehicle's structural rigidity which results in a 50% reduction in resistance to deformation in a frontal crash while the intrusion value was reduced by 20 percent. The host of standard passive and active safety feature available on the European spec Polo is listed below:

• ESP electronic stabilization program with Hill Hold Control
• head-thorax airbags (integrated in the front seatbacks), belt tensioners and belt force limiters plus seatbelt warning indicator and head restraints that counteract the risk

Volkswagen also introduced 3 variants for customers to choose from starting from the entry level "Trendline", the midrange "Comfortline" and the flagship version "Highline". Volkswagen claims that equipment level found in the "Trendline" is already impressive and I find no reason not to agree with them when you have electro-hydraulic power steering, power windows in front, central locking, cargo area lighting and tie-down points, warning buzzer if lights are left on, height adjustment for driver’s seat, illuminated make-up mirrors in the sun visors and green tinted windows.

Despite all the improvements seen in the new Polo, the car is actually 7.5% lighter then its predecessor.With the new TDI and TSI engines driving the 2 front wheels via the 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG) one will expect unparalleled levels of performance,refinement and fuel economy in the segment. Altogether there are 7 types of engines to choose from with the option of having Volkswagen's iconic "BlueMotion Technology package” thrown in as well. They are:

• 1.2 MPI with 44 kW / 60 PS
• 1.2 MPI with 51Kw/ 70PS
• 1.4 MPI with 63KW/85PS
• 1.6 TDI with 55kW/75PS
• 1.6 TDI with 66KW/90PS
